Stacey Mielke – Sport Management
Class of 2015
My experience as an HHP student was great; with small and diverse classes I was able to gain a broad understanding of the sports market not just locally but also globally. My degree in Sport Management along with my Business degree has given me the foundation for pursuing a career in international sports. The opportunities that I had at the University of Florida and the people that I met broadened my horizon as I learned about new ideas, cultures and beliefs. In my college years I began traveling overseas working with different organizations. This has led me to pursue my new found passion of international sports and using sports to make a positive impact and change around the world.
Internship site: The Football Foundation a subsidiary of the Grootbos Foundation, Gansbaai, South Africa
My internship gave me hands on experience with an international sport non-profit as I saw the inner workings and operational aspects of the foundations. From donor support, fundraising, event planning and management to daily operations and sports programs, I saw it all. I appreciate the freedom that my site gave me, to take initiative and explore and have my hands in different areas. Being involved in the management side, I was still able to work hands on with the children, build relationships and make lasting memories. Following my internship I plan to return home and work while I prepare for my GRE and apply for graduate school and graduate assistantships.
